On November 15th, fifty energetic volunteers showed up for second volunteer project for Habitat for Humanity to wire a five unit residential building in Gresham.
When this project was in the early planning stages, Local 48 Organizer, Terry Reigle decided that since there were five units, he would try to get five signatory contractors rounded up and give them each their own unit to wire. He initially thought that this might be quite a task, but not so - - after a few short phone calls he had five contractors willing to step up and make it happen! These contractors provided trucks, tools and manpower. There were also quite a few members that were not employed with these contractors that showed up to lend a hand. The contractors that graciously donated these resources were 3-D, Reds, Ochsner, McCoy, and Stoner Electric. Bill Dutton from 3-D did the materials take-off and pulled the permit for the whole project as well.
Terry would like to sincerely thank all of our members and contractors that made this project happen and really does appreciate that people take time out of their personal schedules on a weekend, to support their Local Union and their community.
These are the values that people may come to realize when they think of labor unions and their signatory contractors -- a community that sees when there is something to be done, or someone that needs help, we can be the first people to step up and make things happen.
