IBEW Sisters Celebrate Women in the Trades at Portland Rose Parade

-

There is a rich tradition of women working in the trades that hails back to World War II, as demonstrated by the iconic “Rosie the Riveter” campaign which endures to this day as a symbol for working women everywhere.

For the 2018 Grand Floral Parade, the largest event of the Portland Rose Festival, our Local 48 sisters celebrated this history by channeling their own inner Rosies. Taking to the streets of downtown Portland, over 50 IBEW sisters came out to celebrate this rich legacy and to shine a light on the number of women who continue to find fulfilling careers today as IBEW member electricians. Their goal was simple: Increase awareness of IBEW’s female membership, and continue encouraging women to look to the trades for positive work opportunities.

Thanks to all who joined the Rosies as they made their way across the city! Together, WE CAN DO IT!
