Evan W. Lumsden Jr.

Evan Wiley Lumsden Jr. passed away June 24, 2014, in Milwaukie, from congestive heart failure. He was 93. "Wiley," as he was known to many of his friends, was born Jan. 9, 1921, in Portland, to Evan and Geraldine Lumsden. He was a lifetime resident of the Portland area.

He married Jessie May Libby in 1942. They had a son, Nick Lumsden, before later divorcing. He wed Vernie Lumsden in 1952. They had two sons, Brett Lumsden and Greg Lumsden. Vernie passed away in 2004. Brett died in 2006. Wiley graduated from Milwaukie High School before briefly attending Linfield College.

He then entered the electrical contracting business, working as an electrician before obtaining his electrical contractor's license and becoming a partner in Watco Electric for many years. Wiley retired in 1983, allowing him the time to more avidly pursue his lifelong passion of golf-especially with the many great buddies he made through the game, first at Top O' Scott Golf Course then, for over 40 years, at Willamette Valley Country Club. He also enjoyed tending to his beautiful yard, especially the roses and other assorted flora.

Wiley is survived by his sons, Nick Lumsden (wife, Betty) of Sun City West, Ariz., and Greg Lumsden (wife, Kris) of Eugene; granddaughters, Jill Durand (husband, Mark) of Oregon City and Julie Poetsch (husband, John) of Damascus; and four great-grandchildren. A grandson, Jeff Lumsden, died in 1984.

The service was held on Wednesday, July 2, 2014, at Gethsemani Catholic Cemetery Chapel, 11666 S.E. Stevens Road, Happy Valley. Donations may be made to The Alzheimer's Association, 1650 N.W. Naito Parkway, Suite 190, Portland, OR 97209.
